Name: The Fire Son (his parents kind of failed at giving him a real name)
Age: 17
Species: Hard to say. Sort of… half-human, half personified spark?
Place of Origin (what movie or story did they come from?): The Snow Daughter and the Fire Son
Appearance: It would be impossible for the Fire Son to blend into a crowd. His skin is as red as fire, and he is always very warm to the touch – though if he’s concentrating hard enough, or if he’s somewhere that’s too cold for him, this effect is not nearly as noticeable. His hair and eyes are black; the former is long and generally rather unkempt. Even in the summer, most people will never see him without his fur cloak and his new fur gloves.
Personality: As might be expected, many people would describe the Fire Son as warm, in more ways than one. He’s loving, generous, and passionate. Although his anger can sometimes flare very quickly, it’s just as quick to dissipate. Even during an incredibly intense argument, he would never actually hate the person he’s disagreeing with. In many ways, he is quite peaceful by nature, and it would take a lot to get him to deliberately harm someone.
The Fire Son is normally rather playful and easygoing. He loves making friends, but this has been difficult for him in the past as he tends to stay indoors and close to a fire. His magical cloak enables him to go outside in the summer and in parts of Spring and Autumn without any major discomfort, but going out in the winter is still downright painful.
He often acts without thinking about what the consequences will be, though after the incident with his brother-in-law, he’s definitely going to try harder to think things through, calmly and logically, the way his sister might. In all probability, though, this will never be his forte. But he won’t be as much of a hugger as he was before.
The Fire Son does care about other people very much, but occasionally finds it almost impossible to tell what they need or want. In particular, he has absolutely no idea how well most of them tolerate heat and tends to either underestimate or overestimate what they can stand. Again, at this point, he’s likely to use more caution than necessary. He has recently cut a bit of material from his cloak and made himself a pair of gloves so he can at least touch people without any danger of burning them.
History:
The Fire Son is the younger of two children born because of a once-barren woman’s wishes. His sister is like snow; he himself, of course, is like fire. Being well aware that this caused a lot of trouble for their poor parents, he’s never been sure whether the beings who granted these wishes were good or evil. Or perhaps they were just mischievous, much like the Fire Son himself, who often caused trouble for his parents without meaning to, simply by being playful.
All through their early years, the Fire Son and his sister very carefully avoided any physical contact with each other. Outsiders might have thought they hated each other, but this wasn’t the case at all. The Fire Son loved his sister, but he felt like he was going to freeze to death any time she was even in the same room with him. And it didn’t take him long to figure out that the Snow Daughter couldn’t stand to be in his presence, either. So they stayed away from each other and learned to use the special gifts they had been given: he had some control over fire, and the Snow Daughter, over ice.
When he was fourteen, their parents died, and the Fire Son decided to set out into the world to seek his fortune. He was stunned when his sister declared her intention to go with him; granted, she was the only family he had left in the world, but they also couldn’t be near each other without being miserable.
But the Snow Daughter presented him with one of a pair of magical fur cloaks, which would allow him not to feel the cold as much and thus enable him to tolerate physical proximity. She kept the other, which prevented her from being as strongly affected by heat as she normally was, for herself. Thus armed with useful magic, the two went off together and wandered from place to place for a while.
At the beginning of winter, they decided to settle in the woods for a while. While his sister ran around outside all the time wearing practically nothing, the Fire Son stayed inside, with a fire constantly burning in the fireplace.
One day, a king wandered by, saw the pretty, scantily clad girl, and fell in love. Of course, the Fire Son only saw all of this from the window. By the time he could force himself to actually leave the house for a moment to talk to this stranger, the king had proposed to the Snow Daughter and she’d accepted.
The king was a very kind brother-in-law and had a house built for his brother-in-law, with ovens in absolutely every nook and cranny they could fit into. The Fire Son kept all the fires going constantly, and was truly comfortable for the first time in his life. Unfortunately, this caused him to become so hot he was as dangerous to get close to as fire itself would be.
One day, the Fire Son’s brother-in-law invited everyone to a big party. But by this point the Fire Son was so hot he radiated an intense heat that drove all the guests away, causing the king to lose his temper with the boy and tell him he was really too much trouble. Knowing his sister would defend him if she heard that, and not wanting to cause conflict between her and her husband, the boy promised he’d leave, and embraced his brother-in-law one last time.
At this, the king screamed in pain. The boy released him immediately, but it was too late: the man had been burned to a crisp. The Fire Son was horrified; he had had no idea he could do that to someone at all, let alone simply by hugging them. The Fire Son saw his sister rush towards him, a look of unbridled fury in her eyes… and then, all at once, the world he knew was gone, and he was standing at the summit of what appeared to be a mountain full of fire.

RP Sample:"I'm so sorry. I never meant to hurt anyone." Certainly not the brother-in-law who'd been so kind to him and had, by all accounts, been a decent king. Some might think the Fire Son was angry at the man for making it so clear the heat-loving boy was no longer welcome in his kingdom, but that had not, in the Fire Son's mind, negated the generosity of letting him live in that wonderful house, even if it was to be temporary.
No one but his sister had actually told the Fire Son that it was
painful to be around him. Oh, he'd known they avoided him, but he'd thought that merely reflected a general distrust of strangers,
especially those as unusual-looking as himself. It was different for his sister; her appearance might be odd in its own way, but most men could disregard that because she was also considered so beautiful.
If he'd known that being as warm as he wanted to for the first time in his life would make him so dangerous to everyone else, the Fire Son would have willingly remained slightly uncomfortable for the rest of his days. Never again would he live anywhere with more than one fire built up at a time. Nor would he assume it was safe to hug someone until he'd established that they could currently be around him without discomfort.
When the Snow Daughter turned on her brother, he knew shewas going to kill him. And the boy would have to defend himself. The Fire Son knew, from the stories he'd heard where the tragic hero fatally wounded a loved one by mistake, that the proper attitude was supposed to be unbearable guilt and a newfound desire to join his victim in death. Yet the Fire Son could not bring himself to think that way -- of course he did feel remorse over what he'd just done, but it was an accident, and the boy still wanted to live.
