Although there are an incredible variety of characters who have an impact on human imagination, Monotony has, for the moment and for the purposes of our site, chosen to focus its scheme on a specific type of character.
Targets for exile to the Island in Monotony's quest for world domination and the destruction of human creativity include:
*Characters from family-friendly animated movies. We're especially looking for people from Disney movies, but characters in this category don't have to be Disney. Someone from, say, Anastasia or Megamind would be acceptable, too.
*Characters from relatively family-friendly movies (so nothing R-rated) which could be considered to belong to the "fantasy" genre. Pirates of the Caribbean or Hocus Pocus would fit into this category. So would Stardust.
*Characters from Disney TV series with strong fantasy elements; for example, Gargoyles.
*Characters from fairytales that haven't been adapted into Disney movies yet. Since there are so many different variants of each fairytale out there, we ask anyone who chooses a character in this category to write a synopsis of the version their character is from. It's fine, and even encouraged, to tweak the fairytale a little to give it a unique flavor, as Disney does when making movies based on fairytales. However, in this case, it's also possible to work with slightly darker elements to the story, just as we would with a PG-13 movie accepted on this site. Please look at the "Example Fairytale" to see how to write the synopsis.
*Characters from fairytales that have been adapted into Disney movies, as long as it's a sufficiently different version of the tale that these are not essentially the same character. For example, look at Disney's animated Alice in Wonderland versus the live action Tim Burton version. A word of warning, though: we are probably going to be somewhat stricter here than we would with the other categories, because there's no point in having two people who are basically clones on the site.
*Legendary characters with a fantasy element to their existence. These may include people who have been incorporated into movies in one of the other categories, like the more traditional version of the captain of the Flying Dutchman. Again, the same standards apply as with characters from fairytales that have already been adapted into movies. Please see the "Example Legend" for more information on this.
*We do NOT allow characters from works such as the Chronicles of Narnia or The Prince of Egypt. Roleplaying characters from stories like this involves too many potentially sensitive issues.
Remember that the admins do have the final say on whether or not a certain character will be accepted on the site. If you're not sure if yours would, please PM Maestro or Keraqui. Most of the time, if you can make a good argument for why a character fits in on the site, we'll probably accept that character.
